Peace of Mind

I have no idea which particular book this photocopy is from ...

The chapter heading is 'Peace of Mind' and this is page 196 -

3. Maintain a passive approach

There is no need to make something happen. Likewise, resist the temptation to assess your progress. These two ineffective attitudes are the greatest barriers to satisfying meditation. Adopt an attitude of gentle, positive expectancy and be prepared to accept and enjoy whatever happens.

4. As your practice develops, simplify the technique

Prune and refine it, working easily towards being able to ue the Direct Method - towards being able to just sit and let stillness happen, simply, easily, directly.

5. Be prepared for ups and downs, good days and bad days

Practice in more uncomfortable and more challenging situations. As you progress, your skills will improve and you will soon be experiencing the benefits.

6. If at any stage you experience overwhelming frustrations with the method, experiment with other approaches

Use a secondary focus so that you have something else to fix your concentration upon. You almost certainly will benefit from practising at being the impartial observer (Detials of these techniques are outlined in Chapter Six) {which I obviously did not actually photocopy }

Remember that as soon as you can elicit the Relaxation Response, major health benefits will begin to flow. So merely by being able to sit still, to relax physically and let the mind coast for a while, is a sure sign of maor progress. As time goes on, deeper benefits will flow, easily and naturally,

Once you have established a routine of simple Integral Meditation an have experienced the balance and poise it brings, you may well want to find out more about yourself and the life you are living. Insight Meditation provides the opportunity to do that, and its principles are outline in Chapter Seven.

You may also choose to use the creative power of your mind by adopting the principles and techniques of Creative Meditation. (The details were in Chapters Eight, Nine and Ten.)

The photocopy included bits of page 197 BUT only the first two or three words on each line ... Health Meditation ... 'It is a privelege' ... 'share these pages with you' ... 'May Peace go with you' ...
